Welcome to the Section of Postgraduate Education for General Practice in Wales. We are a part of the School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education (the Wales Postgraduate Deanery) of Cardiff University. This site holds information on Specialist Training for general practice in Wales, the appraisal system and continuing professional development for GPs in Wales.

Our library and news sections are open access and contain important information about the functions of the section in addition to our strategic planning and quality assurance mechanisms. Key individuals are listed and contact details provided.

If you are a doctor considering specialist training in general practice then you may wish to follow the links to the many and varied specialist training schemes across Wales. If you are a GP working in Wales or considering moving then the information around our CPD and appraisal systems may interest you.

The Medical Performers List

The Medical Performers List in Wales now encompasses the Medical List and the Supplementary List. GPs cannot practice in Wales unless they have been accepted onto the Medical Performers List, except GPs who are currently included on a PCT list. These GPs having three months grace to work whilst their application packs are being processed. Once accepted onto the list, GPs will be registered with the LHB in the area in which they are working and they will need to inform the Business Services Centre if they intend to move LHB area. The GP will then need to complete a new application for inclusion on the new LHBs list. In the case of locum GPs, they are able to practice anywhere in Wales, but need to be registered with the LHB in the area where they predominantly work. For an application pack contact the Performers List Team on 01495 332093 and 332124.
